The vendor stalls, originally dolled out centuries ago to fishing families, at the Marseille fish market on the old port are strictly kept within the family, and handed down each generation. If there is no family member to take over the vendor stall, it is forever lost ~ hence the gaps now seen at this historic fish market.

It is common to see the wives of the fishermen selling the fish at the marché du poisson in the old port of Marseille.
